Catherine cardigan

A few weeks ago I got the opportunity to test the newest Sewpony pattern, the Catherine cardigan. It's a really girly cardigan with fun gathering at the top of the sleeves and at the back of the cardigan. Having 4 different sleeve lengths and also an optional pussy bow or short bow this is a must have pattern for all you sewing mothers (grandmothers, ...). Size 12mo-12y.

Today I'm showing you the two cardigans I've made. Since it's still winter here I wanted to make a warmer version of the cardigan first, meaning long sleeves and a slightly thicker fabric than was recommended. I couldn't resist the short bow. My daughter has just turned 7years old, but she is very tiny. According to the size chart I made her a 5y and it fits her perfectly.

For this cardigan I chose a loopback sweater from nosh organic. It's not a very stretchy fabric and that's not ideal for the sleeve cuffs. Luckily my daughter has thin wrists but I wouldn't recommend this fabric. I also struggled a little with the bow due to the ticknes of the fabric. Suze suggests to use light to medium weight knit fabrics but if you want to use heavier fabrics I would leave the bows out. Further than that I didn't experienced any trouble of using this fabric. I really do love the result.

Because my daughter loves to wear dresses, I chose to add only two buttons on top. This way she can combine it with all her favourite dresses and skirts, but also with long sleeves and pants. In the pictures below you see the first test version with three buttons, but during the test the neckline changed a bit, and I decided to adjust this and add only two buttons.

The pattern has been released in English and Dutch. As always Sewpony patterns are very clear and well illustrated.

My second version was one for the summer. I saw so many cute versions with short sleeves made by the other testers that I just had to made one too. This time I did go for the recommended light weight knit. I used one out of my stach, and have no idea where I got it from. I wanted to try the pussy bow and with the lightweight knit it was no trouble at all.

The only thing that's missing is the sun for some beautiful outdoor pictures :-( ...
However I think my daughter looks so stylish in this pictures... still getting used to her not being a toddler anymore.
